1. Introduction and Acceptance
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website, mobile applications, newsletters, and related services (collectively, the "Services") operated by Newslight Communications Inc. ("Newslight," "we," "us," or "our").
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Services.
2. Eligibility

3. Nature of the Services
Newslight is a digital news and media platform that publishes:
- Digital news content
- Aggregated information
- User-generated submissions
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time.
User Accounts
4. Account Registration
To access certain features, you may be required to create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials
- Accept responsibility for all activity under your account
You must notify us immediately of unauthorized use. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
User-Generated Content
5. User Submissions
The Services may allow users to submit comments, tips, articles, images, videos, or other materials ("User Content"). You are solely responsible for your User Content.
6. Ownership and License
You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant Newslight a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, transferable, sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, edit, publish, distribute, publicly display, and create derivative works from your User Content in any format or medium.
This license allows Newslight to:
- Publish submissions in news stories
- Edit for clarity or legal compliance
- Archive content
- Promote the platform
You waive moral rights to the extent permitted under Canadian law.
7. Content Standards
You agree not to submit content that:
- Is false or misleading
- Is defamatory or libelous
- Violates privacy rights
- Infringes copyright, trademark, or other rights
- Promotes hatred, harassment, or violence
- Contains confidential or sensitive personal information without consent
- Violates any law
We reserve sole discretion to determine whether content violates these standards.
8. Editorial Discretion and Moderation
Newslight retains full editorial control and may:
- Review, edit, or remove content
- Decline to publish submissions
- Suspend or ban users
We are not obligated to publish or retain any User Content.
Intellectual Property
9. Platform Content
All content on the Services, excluding User Content, including articles, graphics, logos, software, and design elements, is owned by or licensed to Newslight and protected by Canadian and international intellectual property laws.
You may access content for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, or modify content without prior written permission.
10. Copyright Infringement Policy
If you believe content infringes your copyright, please provide written notice including:
- Identification of the copyrighted work
- URL or description of the allegedly infringing material
- Your contact information
- A statement of good faith belief
- A declaration of accuracy

Prohibited Use
11. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Services for unlawful purposes

- Harass, threaten, or defame others
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems
- Interfere with platform functionality
- Introduce malware or harmful code
- Use automated bots or scraping tools without authorization
- Harvest user data
- Impersonate any person or organization
Violation may result in suspension or legal action.
Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
12. No Professional Advice
Content provided through the Services is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal, financial, medical, or professional advice.
13. No Warranties
The Services are provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties regarding:
- Accuracy
- Reliability
- Availability
- Fitness for a particular purpose
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, Newslight shall not be liable for:
- Indirect or consequential damages
- Loss of profits
- Loss of data
- Reputational harm
- Claims arising from User Content
Our total liability shall not exceed the greater of $100 CAD, or the amount paid by you to us in the preceding 12 months.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Newslight and its officers, directors, employees, and affiliates from any claims arising from:
- Your User Content
- Your use of the Services
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any law or third-party rights
16. Privacy
Your use of the Services is governed by our Privacy Policy.
17. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if:
- You violate these Terms
- Required by law
- Continued access poses risk
You may stop using the Services at any time. Sections relating to intellectual property, indemnification, and limitation of liability survive termination.
18. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada applicable therein. You agree that any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of British Columbia.
19. Severability
If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
20. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.
